A new standard in experience entertainment

X-Corp BV is the company behind the X-Cube: a compact, modular 16m² space packed to the brim with technology. From touchscreens and lighting to audio, sensors, and props—every element is designed to create an immersive, interactive gaming experience. There are now over 42 X-Cubes in operation across the Netherlands, at locations including Hollywood Event Centers, Pathé, Center Parcs, Jumpsquare XL, Europarks, and Bleekemolens Race Planet. More than 10 units are also active abroad. The ambition? International expansion and continuous innovation.

The strength of the X-Cube lies in the concept: family, friends, or colleagues can enjoy a game together in a closed-off space, with no staff required. The unit is fully self-operating, and thanks to smart software and interchangeable content, every experience is unique and scalable. This allows X-Corp to tap into trends like gamification, family entertainment, and hybrid learning solutions.

Why Van Straaten?

When X-Corp transitioned from wooden prototypes to lightweight aluminum modules, the need arose for a reliable partner in modular frames and fabrics. Martin van der Meer, founder of X-Corp, explains: “We needed a supplier that could deliver technically, but also understood how important speed, scalability, and automation are to our business model. That’s exactly what we found in Van Straaten.”

Van Straaten was chosen for two reasons: their expertise in BeMatrix frame systems and their advanced ordering platform. “That combination of technical knowledge and a streamlined ordering process is worth gold to us. With Van Straaten, it’s just: enter, enter, enter, and your order is placed,” says Van der Meer.

What we delivered

Van Straaten supplies custom-printed BlockOut Textile BlackBack Stretch fabrics for the X-Cubes, based on changing designs per location and campaign. These prints are mounted onto aluminum frames, which form part of the X-Cube’s construction. This makes it easy to update the branding and look & feel without having to replace the entire unit. Examples include branded versions for Pathé and Center Parcs, as well as temporary themed designs for specific games or campaigns.

A partnership that works

The collaboration between X-Corp and Van Straaten is built on mutual understanding. “What we expect from a supplier, we also expect from ourselves: fast delivery, clear communication, and technical expertise. Van Straaten isn’t just a supplier to us, they’re a partner,” says Martin. Accessibility is key: “If something comes up, I want to be able to call someone who actually picks up the phone.”

Production quality and color consistency are also critical: uniform print colors across batches are essential to the X-Cube’s premium look. “We once noticed a slight difference in black tones on a delivery—it was taken seriously and resolved quickly.”

Looking ahead: international growth and new applications

X-Corp has big plans. New X-Cubes are being installed in France and Portugal, with further expansion planned in the UK and Denmark. At the same time, the company is developing new concepts like the X-POD: a smaller, arcade-style version of the X-Cube with shorter games. They’re also exploring use cases beyond entertainment—such as onboarding games and branded experiences for companies like Marriott and Adidas.

Throughout these developments, Van Straaten remains a natural partner. “We keep growing and experimenting. That requires suppliers who can grow with us. Van Straaten keeps proving they can.”

A story with a smile

Martin concludes with a smile: “We started with a brainstorm on a tropical beach. Next thing we knew, we were showcasing our prototype at an international trade fair in Barcelona—and it made an instant impact. Now we’re getting calls from venues asking if we can ‘just drop off an X-Cube’. It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come, and how crucial the right partners have been in getting us here.”
